Last night, while I was surfing through the artwork on dA, I came across a drawing called "the nightfly" by VanHeist, and a drawing called "Insert coin" by sickbynature.

"the nightfly":
Something about this drawing seems mysterious. As I look at it, I wonder who the character in the drawing is, and why they're there. What I see is a late night radio show host, a heavy smoker, but not an addict, they choose to smoke. I see black and white, like an old movie or an image where thigns just aren't what they seem. It looks out of place, like the world in the drawing isn't like ours, but the smile on the person's face gives me a sense of safety, like they'll guide through this strange place.

"Insert coin":
No where near as mysterious as "the nightfly", "Insert coin" still makes me wonder who the character is. Looking at the image, I imagine a character, who I have named Zane, riding around an abandoned city on his motorcycle. Zane is a mysterious character, who's life is full of hardships and tradegy. He lives on the street, and he hides from the world, but everyone knows his story, and who he is.

"DJ":
These two drawings have inspired a short story called "DJ", which I came up with last night, and I've already started writing. The story is about Zane, a mysterious motorcyclist in Dystrict, a city-state run by the government as if it where a company; everyone has a purpose, everyone has a job, and everyone must do their job. But, Zane's story is not the main story. The main story is of a chain-smoking radio host known as DJ, a resident of Dystrict. Their radio show, Insomnia, comes on late at night, and they are written off by most as a conspiracy theorist, though they usually are in a very calm mood during their rants (I say "they" because I want to keep DJ's gender a secret). Zane's story is told mostly by DJ, though callers do reveal a bit more about Zane, including a stripper named Buny, DJ's lover.

Anyways, I hope to find more drawings that inspire short stories.
